Brighton delivered a masterclass at the Amex, sweeping aside Chelsea with a clinical 3-0 victory that sees them climb into the top six.
This result cements the Seagulls' status as European contenders while leaving the visitors searching for answers amidst a deepening crisis.
Before the whistle, the tension was palpable as Brighton looked to capitalise on their status as one of the league's most disciplined defensive units and continue their push for European qualification.
Chelsea arrived desperate to snap a four-match losing streak, hoping to find their scoring boots against a Brighton side that had historically struggled for home clean sheets.
It didn't take long for the pattern of the match to take shape. In just the third minute, Pascal Gross delivered a corner from the left which was flicked on towards Ferdi Kadioglu, whose precise shot flew past the goalkeeper to open the scoring (1-0).
Brighton continued to dictate the pace, and the second blow arrived in the 56th minute after a sweeping counter-attack saw Georginio Rutter charge forward before finding Jack Hinshelwood on his left, with the youngster's first-time finish finding the bottom left corner (2-0).
The final flourish arrived in stoppage time when Maxim De Cuyper sprinted down the left flank and delivered a low cut-back for Danny Welbeck at the near post, who clinically slotted the ball first-time into the top right corner (3-0).
This victory marks Brighton's fourth win in five outings and extends their impressive unbeaten run to five matches.
By leapfrogging Chelsea into sixth place, they have firmly established themselves in the European qualification conversation. Their defensive solidity was particularly noteworthy, as they managed a rare home clean sheet against a side that, despite their high away scoring record earlier in the campaign, looked toothless throughout the ninety minutes.
Having moved up to 50 points, the Seagulls will now focus on maintaining this momentum in their next fixture against Newcastle.
For the Blues, this fifth consecutive defeat without scoring represents an alarming trend for their European hopes.
Having now failed to keep a clean sheet in 13 straight matches following this result, their defensive vulnerabilities were laid bare once again at the Amex. Dropping down to seventh in the table with 48 points, they have been overtaken by their hosts.
The focus must now shift to their upcoming home clash with Nottingham Forest, where they will desperately seek to arrest this slump and find the back of the net for the first time in weeks in the league.
2nd consecutive home win for Brighton. 5th consecutive defeat for Chelsea. 2nd consecutive away defeat for Chelsea. 5th consecutive game where Brighton scored. 2nd consecutive home game where Brighton scored. 12th consecutive game where Chelsea conceded. 9th consecutive away game where Chelsea conceded. 5th consecutive game with no goal scored for Chelsea. 2nd consecutive away game with no goal scored for Chelsea.
To calculate the above duration values based on a total of 90 minutes, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are considered scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are considered scored on the 90th minute.

Domination Index calculation method
⌄
The Domination Index calculation is based on the average of the following percentages:
- Possession percentage - Percentage of match corners awarded to each team - Percentage of time each team has been in the lead
The calculation used is: AVERAGE OF (% Possession x 4, % Corners and % Lead duration x 2)
'Domination' in football can be perceived in different ways. The goal of the Domination Index, as calculated here, is not about trying to determine things like 'who should have won' or which team has been simply attacking the most.
Sometimes a team has easily scored once or twice in the beginning of the game and then opts for a more reactive stance, with a focus on hindering the opponent's game. At the end of the match, the opponent might have had more possession, and even more shots, but that does not necessarily mean they have dominated the other team.
Considering possession as only one of the factors, which also include corners (clearly indicating a form of pressure on the opponent's defence), and how much of the 90-minute match duration each team has been leading, allows to also account for when teams have simply been busy controling the game, without needing to attack a lot.

The 'League average' indicator refers to the average value for all teams in the league since the beginning of the season.
Note: in the table above, to allow for averaging duration values based on a total of 90 minutes per game, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are all considered to be scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are also considered scored on the 90th minute.
In this example, Brighton e Hove Albion have been in the lead for an average duration of 23.3 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 25.8 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Non-crucial goals scored: goals scored that increased an existing lead, or decreased the opponent's existing lead.
Non-crucial goals conceded: goals conceded that decreased an existing lead, or increased the opponent's existing lead.
Note regarding the Goals giving the lead and the goals giving lead to opponent values: both the team and the opponent team might take the lead more than once during a single match,
so the total number of goals giving the lead to a team might be higher than the number of matches played by the team.
Lead-defending ability Brighton e Hove Albion have taken the lead 22 times and have conceded an equalizer on 8 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 64% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 36%).
Equalizing ability Of the 25 times that Brighton's opponents have taken the lead, Brighton have managed to score an equalizer on 12 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 48%.
In this example, Brighton have been in the lead for an average duration of 34.6 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 18.3 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Brighton have taken the lead 16 times and have conceded an equalizer on 7 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 56% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 44%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 8 times that Brighton's opponents have taken the lead when Brighton were playing at home, Brighton have managed to score an equalizer on 4 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 50%.
In this example, Brighton have been in the lead for an average duration of 12.0 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 33.3 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Brighton have taken the lead 6 times and have conceded an equalizer on 1 occasion, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 83% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 17%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 17 times that Brighton's opponents have taken the lead when Brighton were playing away, Brighton have managed to score an equalizer on 8 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 47%.

In this example, Chelsea have been in the lead for an average duration of 25.9 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 25.6 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability Chelsea have taken the lead 23 times and have conceded an equalizer on 9 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 61% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 39%).
Equalizing ability Of the 24 times that Chelsea's opponents have taken the lead, Chelsea have managed to score an equalizer on 10 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 42%.
In this example, Chelsea have been in the lead for an average duration of 30.8 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 17.1 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Chelsea have taken the lead 15 times and have conceded an equalizer on 8 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 47% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 53%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 9 times that Chelsea's opponents have taken the lead when Chelsea were playing at home, Chelsea have managed to score an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 22%.
In this example, Chelsea have been in the lead for an average duration of 21.1 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 34.2 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Chelsea have taken the lead 8 times and have conceded an equalizer on 1 occasion, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 88% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 12%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 15 times that Chelsea's opponents have taken the lead when Chelsea were playing away, Chelsea have managed to score an equalizer on 8 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 53%.
