A dramatic late intervention saw Brentford snatch a point in a pulsing 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The outcome carries heavy weight for the visitors, who seemed destined to break their frustrating winless run until a late lapse cost them dearly.
For the Bees, this hard-fought draw still means they missed a golden opportunity to leapfrog Brighton in the Premier League standings following the Seagulls' defeat earlier in the day.
Before the first whistle, both teams were driven by distinct ambitions and anxieties. Brentford walked out hoping to capitalise on Brighton's recent slip-up to improve their position in the upper half of the table.
Crystal Palace arrived carrying the heavy burden of a five-match winless sequence, desperate to snap the streak and exploit their historical efficiency on the road, where they have picked up 53% of their total league points.
The story of the match exploded into life after just six minutes when Ismala Sarr was brought down inside the penalty area. The referee wasted no time pointing to the spot, and Ismaila Sarr stepped up himself to smash the penalty into the bottom left corner, setting a positive trend against a Brentford side that has now failed to keep a clean sheet in 14 of their 19 home matches (0-1).
The hosts responded before the break when Yarmoliuk whipped a cross from the right flank in the 40th minute; a Palace defender tried to head it clear, but the ball deflected off Dango Ouattara's head and flew into the net to equalise (1-1).
Palace restored their advantage in the 52nd minute when Daniel Munoz laid the ball off on the right side of the box to Adam Wharton, who took a touch in a central position outside the area and unleashed a powerful, low left-footed drive that slipped under the goalkeeper's stretched arms (1-2).
Just as the Eagles thought they had secured all three points, Brentford's habit of finishing games strongly surfaced yet again, as they score 35% of their goals after the 75th minute. A long throw from the right was flicked on by Sepp Van Den Berg at the near post, allowing Dango Ouattara to head home from close range at the far post in the 88th minute to secure his brace and rescue a point (2-2).
Brentford will take heart from their late fighting spirit, but they must address the defensive vulnerabilities that saw them extend their record to 14 home games without a clean sheet out of 19.
The result moves them to 52 points from 37 matches, leaving them in eighth position and sitting exactly one point behind seventh-placed Brighton. Looking ahead to their final fixture, the Bees face a formidable away challenge against Liverpool, where shoring up the backline will be the primary focus.
Crystal Palace will feel immense frustration after being denied a victory so late, which extends their painful winless run to six matches in the Premier League.
On a statistical level, the Eagles maintained their trend of away scoring efficiency by finding the net in 14 of their 19 road trips, but their defensive frailties continued as they have now conceded at least two goals in each of their last five matches and their last four away games.
Oliver Glasner's side sits 15th in the table with 45 points from 37 games, completely safe from relegation but eager to restore pride when they close their season at home against Arsenal next week.
2nd consecutive home game where Brentford scored. 5th consecutive game where Crystal Palace conceded. 6th consecutive away game where Crystal Palace conceded. 2nd consecutive game where Brentford conceded.
To calculate the above duration values based on a total of 90 minutes, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are considered scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are considered scored on the 90th minute.

Domination Index calculation method

The Domination Index calculation is based on the average of the following percentages:
- Possession percentage - Percentage of match corners awarded to each team - Percentage of time each team has been in the lead
The calculation used is: AVERAGE OF (% Possession x 4, % Corners and % Lead duration x 2)
'Domination' in football can be perceived in different ways. The goal of the Domination Index, as calculated here, is not about trying to determine things like 'who should have won' or which team has been simply attacking the most.
Sometimes a team has easily scored once or twice in the beginning of the game and then opts for a more reactive stance, with a focus on hindering the opponent's game. At the end of the match, the opponent might have had more possession, and even more shots, but that does not necessarily mean they have dominated the other team.
Considering possession as only one of the factors, which also include corners (clearly indicating a form of pressure on the opponent's defence), and how much of the 90-minute match duration each team has been leading, allows to also account for when teams have simply been busy controling the game, without needing to attack a lot.

The 'League average' indicator refers to the average value for all teams in the league since the beginning of the season.
Note: in the table above, to allow for averaging duration values based on a total of 90 minutes per game, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are all considered to be scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are also considered scored on the 90th minute.
In this example, Brentford have been in the lead for an average duration of 25.4 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 22.9 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Non-crucial goals scored: goals scored that increased an existing lead, or decreased the opponent's existing lead.
Non-crucial goals conceded: goals conceded that decreased an existing lead, or increased the opponent's existing lead.
Note regarding the Goals giving the lead and the goals giving lead to opponent values: both the team and the opponent team might take the lead more than once during a single match,
so the total number of goals giving the lead to a team might be higher than the number of matches played by the team.
Lead-defending ability Brentford have taken the lead 25 times and have conceded an equalizer on 11 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 56% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 44%).
Equalizing ability Of the 20 times that Brentford's opponents have taken the lead, Brentford have managed to score an equalizer on 7 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 35%.
In this example, Brentford have been in the lead for an average duration of 32.3 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 17.5 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Brentford have taken the lead 14 times and have conceded an equalizer on 6 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 57% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 43%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 8 times that Brentford's opponents have taken the lead when Brentford were playing at home, Brentford have managed to score an equalizer on 5 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 62%.
In this example, Brentford have been in the lead for an average duration of 18.6 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 28.3 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Brentford have taken the lead 11 times and have conceded an equalizer on 5 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 55% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 45%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 12 times that Brentford's opponents have taken the lead when Brentford were playing away, Brentford have managed to score an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 17%.

In this example, Crystal Palace have been in the lead for an average duration of 17.9 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 22.0 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability Crystal Palace have taken the lead 23 times and have conceded an equalizer on 12 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 48% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 52%).
Equalizing ability Of the 22 times that Crystal Palace's opponents have taken the lead, Crystal Palace have managed to score an equalizer on 7 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 32%.
In this example, Crystal Palace have been in the lead for an average duration of 12.8 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 22.7 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Crystal Palace have taken the lead 9 times and have conceded an equalizer on 5 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 44% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 56%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 11 times that Crystal Palace's opponents have taken the lead when Crystal Palace were playing at home, Crystal Palace have managed to score an equalizer on 5 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 45%.
In this example, Crystal Palace have been in the lead for an average duration of 22.9 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 21.3 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Crystal Palace have taken the lead 14 times and have conceded an equalizer on 7 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 50% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 50%).
