I am looking for a very specific piece of information/statistics about a league, team or player and I don't seem to find it on this site. Where else could I look for it?
For historical statistics, you may find what you are looking for at the following amazing site: RSSSF Archive. Another great resource for historical data is Histora.org. That site contains a wealth of information and statistics on international soccer.
In the tipping competition, why isn't the tipsters table listing all players that have signed up?
Soccerstats organizes a tipping competition for which you can sign up free of charge. The tipsters table is calculated based on the tips entered by the players during the last 90 days. It is set to only list those players that entered a tip during that time.
How are the result predictions / result forecasts calculated?
The result predictions at Soccerstats are calculated based on the estimated strenght of the teams calculated from the results observed in the current season. There is NO historical data older than the current season involved in the calculation.
The value of that type of pure mathematical prediction method is that it remains consistent and totally offsets any kind of emotional
factor in the calculation of the probabilities, because the program is not a supporter of any of the teams for which it predicts results! :)
However, those predictions should not be considered as strong enough to accurately predict the outcome of any match.
The predictions need to be balanced with other statistics, which can also be found on the site.
Also, the calculated predictions do not take into account important factors like player injuries and suspensions, or how badly does a team need to win a match (sometimes the "stronger" team only needs a draw and will try get just that). The prediction engine does not detect when the manager instructs their players not to take risks before certain matches, just because there is a more important match coming up next.... and all that sort of things :)
All in all, the predictions at SoccerSTATS.com are just there to be part of the equation, when trying to estimate the potential outcome of a match.
How come there are some important leagues not listed?
The raw data from which the statistics are calculated is provided on a voluntarily basis by contributors in different countries. Sometimes a contributor can no longer participate and so we can no longer track the corresponding league. It can be quite time consuming to gather results data on a regular basis. We prefer to limit the number of leagues we track, not necessarily to those leagues that are the most important, but to those that we know we can update regularly.
