Manchester City showed their resilience, securing a vital three points in the pursuit of Champions League football despite a scarcity of clear chances.
Wolves, despite creating two notable opportunities, ultimately failed to gain control of the match, marking the end of their impressive six-game winning streak in the Premier League.
The Citizens secured their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton in a match characterized by City's dominance in possession but Wolves' resilient defence and occasional dangerous counter-attacks.
The first half saw a tight midfield battle in the early stages, with Wolves showing glimpses of attacking intent but struggling to break down City's organized defense.
City also found it challenging to penetrate Wolves' compact two defensive lines, often resorting to long balls that lacked precision.
There were near misses at both ends, with Marmoush blasting over for City and Ait-Nouri hitting the post for Wolves amidst a goalmouth scramble. The momentum shifted towards the end of the first half, with City increasing the pressure. This finally paid off in the 35th minute when Doku's cutback found an unmarked De Bruyne, who slotted home to give City the lead.
The second half began with City maintaining their attacking pressure. However, Wolves managed to carve out a dangerous opportunity against the run of play when Cunha's surprising shot struck the near post.
City then eased off slightly, allowing Wolves more possession and opportunities to play out from the back. However, City remained dangerous on the counter, particularly through Doku on the left.
Wolves focused their attacking efforts on the left flank, using Ait-Nouri to create crossing opportunities, but struggled to find a breakthrough. Despite City controlling possession for large periods, clear-cut chances remained scarce.
In the final stages, Wolves threw everything forward, launching balls into the box, but City's defense remained resolute, securing a narrow victory for the home side.
The goal:
35’ City surge forward, and Doku makes a dangerous run into the box on the left before cutting it back low to the waiting De Bruyne. The Belgian international, with space at the penalty spot, makes no mistake, firing past the keeper to put City ahead (1-0).
4th consecutive win for Manchester City. 4th consecutive home win for Manchester City. 4th consecutive game where Manchester City scored. 5th consecutive home game where Manchester City scored.
To calculate the above duration values based on a total of 90 minutes, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are considered scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are considered scored on the 90th minute.

How is the Domination Index calculated?
⌄
The Domination Index calculation is based on the average of the following percentages:
- Possession percentage - Percentage of match corners awarded to each team - Percentage of time each team has been in the lead
'Domination' in football can be perceived in different ways. The goal of the Domination Index, as calculated here, is not about trying to determine things like 'who should have won' or which team has been simply attacking the most.
Sometimes a team has easily scored once or twice in the beginning of the game and then opts for a more reactive stance, with a focus on hindering the opponent's game. At the end of the match, the opponent might have had more possession, and even more shots, but that does not necessarily mean they have dominated the other team.
Considering possession as only one of the factors, which also include corners (clearly indicating a form of pressure on the opponent's defence), and how much of the 90-minute match duration each team has been leading, allows to also account for when teams have simply been busy controling the game, without needing to attack a lot.

The 'League average' indicator refers to the average value for all teams in the league since the beginning of the season.
Note: in the table above, to allow for averaging duration values based on a total of 90 minutes per game, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are all considered to be scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are also considered scored on the 90th minute.
In this example, Manchester City have been in the lead for an average duration of 37.5 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 18.2 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Non-crucial goals scored: goals scored that increased an existing lead, or decreased the opponent's existing lead.
Non-crucial goals conceded: goals conceded that decreased an existing lead, or increased the opponent's existing lead.
Note regarding the Goals giving the lead and the Goals giving the lead to the opponent values: both the team and the opponent team might take the lead more than once during a single match,
so the total number of goals giving the lead to a team might be higher than the number of matches played by the team.
Lead-defending ability Manchester City have taken the lead 31 times and have conceded an equalizer on 10 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 68% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 32%).
Equalizing ability Of the 19 times that Manchester City's opponents have taken the lead, Manchester City have managed to score an equalizer on 10 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 53%.
In this example, Manchester City have been in the lead for an average duration of 47.2 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 15.5 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Manchester City have taken the lead 19 times and have conceded an equalizer on 6 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 68% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 32%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 9 times that Manchester City's opponents have taken the lead when Manchester City were playing at home, Manchester City have managed to score an equalizer on 6 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 67%.
In this example, Manchester City have been in the lead for an average duration of 27.8 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 20.9 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Manchester City have taken the lead 12 times and have conceded an equalizer on 4 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 67% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 33%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 10 times that Manchester City's opponents have taken the lead when Manchester City were playing away, Manchester City have managed to score an equalizer on 4 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 40%.

In this example, Wolverhampton Wanderers have been in the lead for an average duration of 20.8 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 32.8 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability Wolverhampton Wanderers have taken the lead 18 times and have conceded an equalizer on 6 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 67% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 33%).
Equalizing ability Of the 38 times that Wolverhampton's opponents have taken the lead, Wolverhampton have managed to score an equalizer on 18 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 47%.
In this example, Wolverhampton have been in the lead for an average duration of 25.4 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 28.7 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Wolverhampton have taken the lead 9 times and have conceded an equalizer on 3 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 67% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 33%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 19 times that Wolverhampton's opponents have taken the lead when Wolverhampton were playing at home, Wolverhampton have managed to score an equalizer on 9 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 47%.
In this example, Wolverhampton have been in the lead for an average duration of 16.2 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 36.9 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Wolverhampton have taken the lead 9 times and have conceded an equalizer on 3 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 67% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 33%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 19 times that Wolverhampton's opponents have taken the lead when Wolverhampton were playing away, Wolverhampton have managed to score an equalizer on 9 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 47%.
