Anfield was buzzing, but it was Arsenal who truly made a statement, denying the newly-crowned champions Liverpool a triumphant home send-off. In a thrilling encounter, the Gunners dug deep to snatch a vital point, decisively ending Liverpool’s impressive seven-match home winning streak in the league.
In doing so, they also extended their own remarkable away undefeated league run, which now stands at a formidable 13 matches.
The evening started in nightmarish fashion for Mikel Arteta’s side. Within a whirlwind two minutes early in the game, Liverpool had raced into a seemingly comfortable lead. First, a cross from the left found Cody Gakpo, who clinically headed home from close range at the near post. Moments later, Dominik Szoboszlai’s entered into the box and slotted the ball past the advancing goalkeeper, with Luis Diaz eventually tapping the ball into an empty net, making it 2-0.
However, the Gunners emerged from the break with renewed purpose, scripting a dramatic comeback. The fightback began when Leandro Trossard’s incisive cross from the left flank found an unmarked Gabriel Martinelli, whose header from the penalty spot slightly deflected the ball into the opposite corner.
The equaliser soon followed; Martin Ødegaard’s powerful rising strike from outside the box was parried onto the post by the outstretched goalkeeper, but the alert Merino reacted first, diving to head the rebound into the empty net.
With the score level at 2-2, both teams pushed for a winner. The game's dynamic shifted dramatically in the 79th minute when Merino was shown a red card.
For the final ten minutes plus stoppage time, Arsenal, now playing with ten men, showed incredible resilience, sacrificing any attacking ambitions to focus entirely on defence. They held firm, managing to secure a hard-fought draw that felt like a victory, ensuring their impressive unbeaten streak on the road continued.
32nd consecutive game where Liverpool scored. 16th consecutive home game where Liverpool scored. 3rd consecutive game where Arsenal conceded. 9th consecutive game where Arsenal scored. 4th consecutive away game where Arsenal scored. 3rd consecutive game where Liverpool conceded. 3rd consecutive home game where Liverpool conceded.
To calculate the above duration values based on a total of 90 minutes, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are considered scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are considered scored on the 90th minute.

How is the Domination Index calculated?
⌄
The Domination Index calculation is based on the average of the following percentages:
- Possession percentage - Percentage of match corners awarded to each team - Percentage of time each team has been in the lead
'Domination' in football can be perceived in different ways. The goal of the Domination Index, as calculated here, is not about trying to determine things like 'who should have won' or which team has been simply attacking the most.
Sometimes a team has easily scored once or twice in the beginning of the game and then opts for a more reactive stance, with a focus on hindering the opponent's game. At the end of the match, the opponent might have had more possession, and even more shots, but that does not necessarily mean they have dominated the other team.
Considering possession as only one of the factors, which also include corners (clearly indicating a form of pressure on the opponent's defence), and how much of the 90-minute match duration each team has been leading, allows to also account for when teams have simply been busy controling the game, without needing to attack a lot.

The 'League average' indicator refers to the average value for all teams in the league since the beginning of the season.
Note: in the table above, to allow for averaging duration values based on a total of 90 minutes per game, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are all considered to be scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are also considered scored on the 90th minute.
In this example, Liverpool have been in the lead for an average duration of 40.4 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 13.0 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Non-crucial goals scored: goals scored that increased an existing lead, or decreased the opponent's existing lead.
Non-crucial goals conceded: goals conceded that decreased an existing lead, or increased the opponent's existing lead.
Note regarding the Goals giving the lead and the Goals giving the lead to the opponent values: both the team and the opponent team might take the lead more than once during a single match,
so the total number of goals giving the lead to a team might be higher than the number of matches played by the team.
Lead-defending ability Liverpool have taken the lead 37 times and have conceded an equalizer on 12 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 68% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 32%).
Equalizing ability Of the 19 times that Liverpool's opponents have taken the lead, Liverpool have managed to score an equalizer on 15 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 79%.
In this example, Liverpool have been in the lead for an average duration of 50.1 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 9.7 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Liverpool have taken the lead 18 times and have conceded an equalizer on 4 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 78% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 22%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 8 times that Liverpool's opponents have taken the lead when Liverpool were playing at home, Liverpool have managed to score an equalizer on 7 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 88%.
In this example, Liverpool have been in the lead for an average duration of 31.1 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 16.1 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Liverpool have taken the lead 19 times and have conceded an equalizer on 8 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 58% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 42%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 11 times that Liverpool's opponents have taken the lead when Liverpool were playing away, Liverpool have managed to score an equalizer on 8 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 73%.
Liverpool stats rank the team in 1st position in the Premier League table with 83 points, 12 points above Arsenal.

In this example, Arsenal have been in the lead for an average duration of 34.5 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 8.8 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability Arsenal have taken the lead 34 times and have conceded an equalizer on 15 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 56% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 44%).
Equalizing ability Of the 11 times that Arsenal's opponents have taken the lead, Arsenal have managed to score an equalizer on 7 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 64%.
In this example, Arsenal have been in the lead for an average duration of 42.6 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 4.2 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Arsenal have taken the lead 21 times and have conceded an equalizer on 10 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 52% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 48%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 4 times that Arsenal's opponents have taken the lead when Arsenal were playing at home, Arsenal have managed to score an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 50%.
In this example, Arsenal have been in the lead for an average duration of 25.9 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 13.7 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Arsenal have taken the lead 13 times and have conceded an equalizer on 5 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 62% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 38%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 7 times that Arsenal's opponents have taken the lead when Arsenal were playing away, Arsenal have managed to score an equalizer on 5 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 71%.
Arsenal stats rank the team in 2nd position in the Premier League table with 71 points, 12 points behind Liverpool and 3 points above Manchester City.
