In a breathtaking finale that left the St James' Park faithful in raptures, Newcastle Utd snatched a sensational 4-3 victory over Leeds Utd with the final kick of the game, a result that cements their status as a force to be reckoned with at home.
Before this seven-goal thriller kicked off, the stakes were high for both sides as Newcastle aimed to break into the top tier of the table while Leeds hoped to protect a burgeoning seven-match unbeaten streak.
The Magpies were desperate to maintain their clinical home scoring record to climb from 9th, whereas the visitors, sitting in 16th, arrived with the daunting task of tightening a backline that had struggled for clean sheets all season.
The match exploded into life when the visitors silenced the crowd in the 32nd minute, as Brenden Aaronson found the net to give Leeds the lead (0-1).
However, the joy was short-lived because Harvey Barnes struck back just four minutes later to level proceedings (1-1).
Leeds proved they weren't finished when they were awarded a penalty just before the break, which D. Calvert-Lewin coolly converted to ensure the visitors led at the interval (1-2).
Newcastle emerged for the second half with renewed intent and Joelinton drew them level once more in the 54th minute (2-2).
The drama intensified late on when Brenden Aaronson looked to have secured a famous away win with his second of the night in the 79th minute (2-3).
But the Magpies are never out of it at home; in the first minute of stoppage time, Bruno Guimares smashed home a penalty to equalise (3-3).
Then, in the 102nd minute, the stadium erupted as Harvey Barnes completed the comeback with a dramatic winner (4-3).
For Newcastle Utd, this heart-stopping victory marks their third consecutive win and extends their incredible run to eight home matches without defeat. While they were forced to come from behind marking the first time this season they have won after conceding first their offence at home remains among the highest in the league, having now scored in 11 straight games at St James' Park.
They will head into their next clash against Wolverhampton with immense confidence, knowing their attacking potency in the last 8 games has been 23.7% higher than their season average.
It was absolute heartbreak for Leeds Utd, who saw a precious result slip away in the dying seconds to end their seven-match unbeaten run. Despite a much-improved scoring rate, their defensive vulnerabilities were exposed again as they have now failed to keep a clean sheet in 18 of their 21 league matches.
This result leaves them languishing near the bottom of the table with only one win on the road all season, and they must now find a way to shore up a defence that continues to leak goals ahead of their next fixture against Fulham.
3rd consecutive win for Newcastle Utd. 2nd consecutive home win for Newcastle Utd. 3rd consecutive game where Newcastle Utd scored. 11th consecutive home game where Newcastle Utd scored. 2nd consecutive game where Leeds Utd conceded. 2nd consecutive game where Leeds Utd scored.
To calculate the above duration values based on a total of 90 minutes, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are considered scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are considered scored on the 90th minute.

Domination Index calculation method

The Domination Index calculation is based on the average of the following percentages:
- Possession percentage - Percentage of match corners awarded to each team - Percentage of time each team has been in the lead
The calculation used is: AVERAGE OF (% Possession x 4, % Corners and % Lead duration x 2)
'Domination' in football can be perceived in different ways. The goal of the Domination Index, as calculated here, is not about trying to determine things like 'who should have won' or which team has been simply attacking the most.
Sometimes a team has easily scored once or twice in the beginning of the game and then opts for a more reactive stance, with a focus on hindering the opponent's game. At the end of the match, the opponent might have had more possession, and even more shots, but that does not necessarily mean they have dominated the other team.
Considering possession as only one of the factors, which also include corners (clearly indicating a form of pressure on the opponent's defence), and how much of the 90-minute match duration each team has been leading, allows to also account for when teams have simply been busy controling the game, without needing to attack a lot.

The 'League average' indicator refers to the average value for all teams in the league since the beginning of the season.
Note: in the table above, to allow for averaging duration values based on a total of 90 minutes per game, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are all considered to be scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are also considered scored on the 90th minute.
In this example, Newcastle United have been in the lead for an average duration of 25.7 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 20.3 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Non-crucial goals scored: goals scored that increased an existing lead, or decreased the opponent's existing lead.
Non-crucial goals conceded: goals conceded that decreased an existing lead, or increased the opponent's existing lead.
Note regarding the Goals giving the lead and the goals giving lead to opponent values: both the team and the opponent team might take the lead more than once during a single match,
so the total number of goals giving the lead to a team might be higher than the number of matches played by the team.
Lead-defending ability Newcastle United have taken the lead 29 times and have conceded an equalizer on 15 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 48% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 52%).
Equalizing ability Of the 27 times that Newcastle Utd's opponents have taken the lead, Newcastle Utd have managed to score an equalizer on 10 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 37%.
In this example, Newcastle Utd have been in the lead for an average duration of 30.0 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 15.6 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Newcastle Utd have taken the lead 19 times and have conceded an equalizer on 9 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 53% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 47%).

In this example, Newcastle Utd have been in the lead for an average duration of 21.4 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 25.1 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.

In this example, Leeds Utd have been in the lead for an average duration of 14.1 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 24.2 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Leeds Utd have taken the lead 8 times and have conceded an equalizer on 6 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 25% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 75%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 16 times that Leeds Utd's opponents have taken the lead when Leeds Utd were playing away, Leeds Utd have managed to score an equalizer on 8 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 50%.
