Wolverhampton Wanderers delivered a massive shock by toppling Champions League hopefuls Liverpool with a dramatic 2-1 victory at Molineux.
The atmosphere at Molineux was electric as the division's basement boys pulled off a heist that few saw coming, especially after the visitors had enjoyed the lion's share of the ball throughout the contest.
This result breathed life into a stadium that has seen more than its fair share of defensive woes this term, proving that even those at the bottom can punch well above their weight when the home crowd is behind them.
For Wolves, sitting at the foot of the table, this was a desperate search for pride and a spark to ignite a miraculous escape from the drop.
Liverpool arrived with the wind in their sails, chasing a fourth straight win to cement their spot in the top four and potentially move closer to the summit. With two straight away clean sheets under their belt, they were looking to dismantle the division's leakiest defence.
Despite the visitors controlling the tempo, the game remained locked until the 78th minute when the stadium erupted. Tolu Arokodare spotted Rodrigo Gomes making a clever run into the left side of the area, and the winger kept his cool to chip the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to break the deadlock (1-0).
The lead was short-lived, however, as Mohamed Salah equalised just five minutes later. The superstar intercepted a stray pass, burst into the box, and buried a low shot into the near corner to restore parity (1-1).
Just as it looked like the spoils would be shared, Wolves produced a moment of magic in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Jackson Tchatchoua found Andr in a central position outside the area, and his speculative effort took a subtle deflection, looping over the keeper and into the net to seal a famous win (2-1).
This result marks a stunning turnaround for Wolverhampton, who have now managed two consecutive wins and remain undefeated in their last three home fixtures against top-tier opposition.
Despite still being rooted to the bottom of the table, their survival hopes have been reignited as they prove they can score twice against even the most resolute defences as they did in their last 3 home games, against Arsenal, Aston Villa and thus Liverpool. Rob Edwards' side will now look to carry this momentum into their trip to Brentford.
For Liverpool, this was a frustrating evening where they dominated possession but lacked the clinical edge to punish their opponents.
The defeat ends their three-match winning streak and continues a trend where seven of their nine losses this season have come by a single-goal margin.
While they remain in fifth place, they missed an opportunity to leapfrog Aston Villa and will need to sharpen their defensive focus during the closing stages of matches before hosting Tottenham.
2nd consecutive win for Wolverhampton. 2nd consecutive home win for Wolverhampton. 2nd consecutive game where Wolverhampton scored. 4th consecutive home game where Wolverhampton scored. 2nd consecutive game where Liverpool conceded. 8th consecutive game where Liverpool scored. 4th consecutive away game where Liverpool scored.
To calculate the above duration values based on a total of 90 minutes, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are considered scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are considered scored on the 90th minute.

Domination Index calculation method

The Domination Index calculation is based on the average of the following percentages:
- Possession percentage - Percentage of match corners awarded to each team - Percentage of time each team has been in the lead
The calculation used is: AVERAGE OF (% Possession x 4, % Corners and % Lead duration x 2)
'Domination' in football can be perceived in different ways. The goal of the Domination Index, as calculated here, is not about trying to determine things like 'who should have won' or which team has been simply attacking the most.
Sometimes a team has easily scored once or twice in the beginning of the game and then opts for a more reactive stance, with a focus on hindering the opponent's game. At the end of the match, the opponent might have had more possession, and even more shots, but that does not necessarily mean they have dominated the other team.
Considering possession as only one of the factors, which also include corners (clearly indicating a form of pressure on the opponent's defence), and how much of the 90-minute match duration each team has been leading, allows to also account for when teams have simply been busy controling the game, without needing to attack a lot.

The 'League average' indicator refers to the average value for all teams in the league since the beginning of the season.
Note: in the table above, to allow for averaging duration values based on a total of 90 minutes per game, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are all considered to be scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are also considered scored on the 90th minute.
In this example, Wolverhampton Wanderers have been in the lead for an average duration of 8.1 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 38.3 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Non-crucial goals scored: goals scored that increased an existing lead, or decreased the opponent's existing lead.
Non-crucial goals conceded: goals conceded that decreased an existing lead, or increased the opponent's existing lead.
Note regarding the Goals giving the lead and the goals giving lead to opponent values: both the team and the opponent team might take the lead more than once during a single match,
so the total number of goals giving the lead to a team might be higher than the number of matches played by the team.
Lead-defending ability Wolverhampton Wanderers have taken the lead 9 times and have conceded an equalizer on 6 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 33% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 67%).
Equalizing ability Of the 33 times that Wolverhampton's opponents have taken the lead, Wolverhampton have managed to score an equalizer on 9 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 27%.
In this example, Wolverhampton have been in the lead for an average duration of 12.0 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 31.8 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Wolverhampton have taken the lead 7 times and have conceded an equalizer on 4 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 43% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 57%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 16 times that Wolverhampton's opponents have taken the lead when Wolverhampton were playing at home, Wolverhampton have managed to score an equalizer on 5 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 31%.
In this example, Wolverhampton have been in the lead for an average duration of 4.1 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 44.8 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Wolverhampton have taken the lead 2 times and have conceded an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 0% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 100%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 17 times that Wolverhampton's opponents have taken the lead when Wolverhampton were playing away, Wolverhampton have managed to score an equalizer on 4 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 24%.

In this example, Liverpool have been in the lead for an average duration of 23.7 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 18.1 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability Liverpool have taken the lead 28 times and have conceded an equalizer on 11 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 61% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 39%).
Equalizing ability Of the 23 times that Liverpool's opponents have taken the lead, Liverpool have managed to score an equalizer on 11 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 48%.
In this example, Liverpool have been in the lead for an average duration of 36.4 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 8.3 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Liverpool have taken the lead 16 times and have conceded an equalizer on 6 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 62% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 38%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 6 times that Liverpool's opponents have taken the lead when Liverpool were playing at home, Liverpool have managed to score an equalizer on 3 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 50%.
In this example, Liverpool have been in the lead for an average duration of 10.9 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 27.8 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Liverpool have taken the lead 12 times and have conceded an equalizer on 5 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 58% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 42%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 17 times that Liverpool's opponents have taken the lead when Liverpool were playing away, Liverpool have managed to score an equalizer on 8 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 47%.
