The Stadium of Light remains an impenetrable fortress as Sunderland swept aside a struggling Burnley 3-0 to maintain their status as the Premier League's only undefeated home side.
Before a ball was kicked, the Black Cats knew that their season's success was built on home soil, with a staggering 72% of their points coming right here, and they were desperate to climb back into the top half after a recent slip-up.
Burnley arrived with a flicker of hope following three gutsy draws against solid opposition, aiming to finally break a 14-match winless streak and claw their way out of the relegation mire.
The script followed a familiar, painful pattern for the visitors when they conceded the opening goal yet again just nine minutes in. After some clever link-up play with Brian Brobbey, Habib Diarra saw his shot take a wicked deflection off Axel Tuanzebe, leaving the goalkeeper stranded as the ball trickled into the net (1-0).
Sunderland, having scored in almost every home game this term, doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark when Nordi Mukiele swung an inviting cross from the right, the cross got deflected and the ball came to Habib Diarra, whose shot found the bottom right corner (2-0).
The contest was effectively settled in the 72nd minute with a moment of individual brilliance as Chemsdine Talbi cut inside from the left and from outside the box, unleashed a thunderous strike that slightly touched the underside of the bar on its way into the top corner (3-0).
For Sunderland, this victory cements their reputation as home specialists and moves them up to 8th in the table, just as they prepare for a daunting trip to face the league leaders, Arsenal.
Theyve now gone 12 matches without defeat in front of their own fans, a run that highlights a defensive solidity that has seen them concede only 26 goals all season, proving they are a force to be reckoned with on their own patch.
Burnleys situation, however, is becoming increasingly dire as they remain 19th, now 15 matches without a win and still searching for that elusive first away clean sheet of the campaign.
Having conceded 30 goals on their travels the worst away defensive record in the division the Clarets must find a way to stop the rot before their next crucial clash against West Ham to avoid being cut adrift at the bottom.
2nd consecutive home win for Sunderland. 3rd consecutive game where Sunderland scored. 2nd consecutive home game where Sunderland scored. 6th consecutive game where Burnley conceded. 12th consecutive away game where Burnley conceded.
To calculate the above duration values based on a total of 90 minutes, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are considered scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are considered scored on the 90th minute.

Domination Index calculation method
⌄
The Domination Index calculation is based on the average of the following percentages:
- Possession percentage - Percentage of match corners awarded to each team - Percentage of time each team has been in the lead
The calculation used is: AVERAGE OF (% Possession x 4, % Corners and % Lead duration x 2)
'Domination' in football can be perceived in different ways. The goal of the Domination Index, as calculated here, is not about trying to determine things like 'who should have won' or which team has been simply attacking the most.
Sometimes a team has easily scored once or twice in the beginning of the game and then opts for a more reactive stance, with a focus on hindering the opponent's game. At the end of the match, the opponent might have had more possession, and even more shots, but that does not necessarily mean they have dominated the other team.
Considering possession as only one of the factors, which also include corners (clearly indicating a form of pressure on the opponent's defence), and how much of the 90-minute match duration each team has been leading, allows to also account for when teams have simply been busy controling the game, without needing to attack a lot.

Note: in the table above, to allow for averaging duration values based on a total of 90 minutes per game, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are all considered to be scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are also considered scored on the 90th minute.
In this example, Sunderland have been in the lead for an average duration of 14.9 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 21.8 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Non-crucial goals scored: goals scored that increased an existing lead, or decreased the opponent's existing lead.
Non-crucial goals conceded: goals conceded that decreased an existing lead, or increased the opponent's existing lead.
Note regarding the Goals giving the lead and the goals giving lead to opponent values: both the team and the opponent team might take the lead more than once during a single match,
so the total number of goals giving the lead to a team might be higher than the number of matches played by the team.
Lead-defending ability Sunderland have taken the lead 13 times and have conceded an equalizer on 4 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 69% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 31%).
Equalizing ability Of the 17 times that Sunderland's opponents have taken the lead, Sunderland have managed to score an equalizer on 8 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 47%.
In this example, Sunderland have been in the lead for an average duration of 21.8 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 11.9 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Sunderland have taken the lead 9 times and have conceded an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 78% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 22%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 8 times that Sunderland's opponents have taken the lead when Sunderland were playing at home, Sunderland have managed to score an equalizer on 6 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 75%.
In this example, Sunderland have been in the lead for an average duration of 7.9 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 31.6 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Sunderland have taken the lead 4 times and have conceded an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 50% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 50%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 9 times that Sunderland's opponents have taken the lead when Sunderland were playing away, Sunderland have managed to score an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 22%.

Each of the 5 segments spans one-fifth (20%) of the total points held by the team ranked 1st in the league. For each team, the number of matches played appears in green between brackets, and the number of points is displayed in black.
More statistics tables can be accessed from the 'Statistics' dropdown list on the league navigation menu.
