Fulham silenced the Stadium of Light with a clinical 3-1 victory, snapping their own losing streak while consigning Sunderland to a third consecutive league defeat.
Before the whistle blew, Sunderland arrived with the wind in their sails despite a recent slip, knowing that 72% of their total points had been secured on home turf.
They were desperate to turn their home ground back into a fortress and leapfrog into the top ten, while Fulham, bruised by three straight losses, were fighting to stop a slide that threatened to drag them toward the relegation scrap.
The first half was a tense, scoreless affair, but the match exploded into life after the break. In the 54th minute, following a corner from Alex Iwobi, Ral Jimnez rose highest to power a towering header into the right corner (0-1).
The momentum shifted further just seven minutes later when a shirt-pulling foul on Bassey in the box gave Fulham a golden opportunity; Jimnez stepped up and coolly slotted the penalty low into the left corner to double the lead (0-2).
Sunderland found a lifeline in the 76th minute when they were awarded a penalty of their own after Ballard was fouled; Enzo Le Fe made no mistake, firing into the top left corner (1-2).
However, the comeback hopes were dashed in the 85th minute when Iwobi led a swift counter-attack, evades the defence on the left, and delicately chipped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to seal the points (1-3).
Sunderland will be reeling after suffering their second consecutive home defeat, a stark contrast to the early season form that saw them remain unbeaten at the Stadium of Light for so long.
Despite scoring at home as they have in 12 of 14 matches, their defensive fragility was exposed again, leaving them in 12th place and looking over their shoulder as they prepare for a trip to Bournemouth. They must find a way to stop the rot, having now conceded 15 goals in their last eight outings, the worst record in the league's current form table.
Fulham, meanwhile, will breathe a massive sigh of relief after returning to winning ways and climbing to 10th in the Premier League. While they once again failed to keep a clean sheet extending that unwanted run to nine matches their attacking efficiency proved decisive on the road.
This result breaks a run of three defeats and provides a much-needed boost in confidence before they host Tottenham, proving they can still produce the goods away from home even when the stats suggested a struggle.
3rd consecutive defeat for Sunderland. 2nd consecutive home defeat for Sunderland. 9th consecutive game where Fulham conceded. 5th consecutive away game where Fulham conceded. 3rd consecutive game where Sunderland conceded. 2nd consecutive home game where Sunderland conceded.
To calculate the above duration values based on a total of 90 minutes, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are considered scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are considered scored on the 90th minute.

Domination Index calculation method
⌄
The Domination Index calculation is based on the average of the following percentages:
- Possession percentage - Percentage of match corners awarded to each team - Percentage of time each team has been in the lead
The calculation used is: AVERAGE OF (% Possession x 4, % Corners and % Lead duration x 2)
'Domination' in football can be perceived in different ways. The goal of the Domination Index, as calculated here, is not about trying to determine things like 'who should have won' or which team has been simply attacking the most.
Sometimes a team has easily scored once or twice in the beginning of the game and then opts for a more reactive stance, with a focus on hindering the opponent's game. At the end of the match, the opponent might have had more possession, and even more shots, but that does not necessarily mean they have dominated the other team.
Considering possession as only one of the factors, which also include corners (clearly indicating a form of pressure on the opponent's defence), and how much of the 90-minute match duration each team has been leading, allows to also account for when teams have simply been busy controling the game, without needing to attack a lot.

Note: in the table above, to allow for averaging duration values based on a total of 90 minutes per game, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are all considered to be scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are also considered scored on the 90th minute.
In this example, Sunderland have been in the lead for an average duration of 14.9 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 21.8 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Non-crucial goals scored: goals scored that increased an existing lead, or decreased the opponent's existing lead.
Non-crucial goals conceded: goals conceded that decreased an existing lead, or increased the opponent's existing lead.
Note regarding the Goals giving the lead and the goals giving lead to opponent values: both the team and the opponent team might take the lead more than once during a single match,
so the total number of goals giving the lead to a team might be higher than the number of matches played by the team.
Lead-defending ability Sunderland have taken the lead 13 times and have conceded an equalizer on 4 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 69% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 31%).
Equalizing ability Of the 17 times that Sunderland's opponents have taken the lead, Sunderland have managed to score an equalizer on 8 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 47%.
In this example, Sunderland have been in the lead for an average duration of 21.8 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 11.9 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Sunderland have taken the lead 9 times and have conceded an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 78% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 22%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 8 times that Sunderland's opponents have taken the lead when Sunderland were playing at home, Sunderland have managed to score an equalizer on 6 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 75%.
In this example, Sunderland have been in the lead for an average duration of 7.9 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 31.6 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Sunderland have taken the lead 4 times and have conceded an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 50% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 50%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 9 times that Sunderland's opponents have taken the lead when Sunderland were playing away, Sunderland have managed to score an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 22%.

The 'League average' indicator refers to the average value for all teams in the league since the beginning of the season.
In this example, Fulham have been in the lead for an average duration of 22.4 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 21.4 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability Fulham have taken the lead 18 times and have conceded an equalizer on 6 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 67% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 33%).
Equalizing ability Of the 21 times that Fulham's opponents have taken the lead, Fulham have managed to score an equalizer on 9 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 43%.
In this example, Fulham have been in the lead for an average duration of 27.7 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 15.0 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Fulham have taken the lead 11 times and have conceded an equalizer on 3 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 73% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 27%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 9 times that Fulham's opponents have taken the lead when Fulham were playing at home, Fulham have managed to score an equalizer on 5 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 56%.
In this example, Fulham have been in the lead for an average duration of 17.1 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 27.7 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Fulham have taken the lead 7 times and have conceded an equalizer on 3 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 57% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 43%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 12 times that Fulham's opponents have taken the lead when Fulham were playing away, Fulham have managed to score an equalizer on 4 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 33%.
