Football has a funny way of teasing you with a certain outcome before pulling the rug out from under your feet, which is exactly what Brentford experienced in a pulsating 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton.
For the Bees, this result feels like a missed opportunity to cement their top-half ambitions, while the visitors showed they aren't ready to go quietly into the night.
Brentford entered the clash with the wind in their sails, having lost only once in their last six league games, and were desperate to move closer to the European spots by ending their recent home drought.
Wolverhampton arrived with a newfound sense of defiance after back-to-back wins over giants like Liverpool, hoping to prove that they could finally secure an away victory and begin a miraculous climb from the bottom of the table.
The contest sparked into life in the 22nd minute when Keane Lewis-Potter whipped a pinpoint cross from the left, finding Michael Kayode at the far post, who powered a header into the right corner (1-0).
The home side doubled their advantage fifteen minutes later; Dango Ouattara raced onto a long ball, kept his composure to square it across the face of goal, and Igor Thiago was there to tap home from point-blank range (2-0).
Just before the break, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde spearheaded a swift counter, feeding Adam Armstrong, who cut inside his marker and unleashed a thunderous strike into the top right corner from distance (2-1).
The visitors completed the comeback in the 77th minute when Joao Gomes swung in a deep delivery that eluded the pack, allowing Tolu Arokodare to produce a diving header that nestled into the far corner (2-2).
Brentford will be kicking themselves for letting a two-goal cushion slip, marking their fourth consecutive home game without a victory.
Their inability to shut the door remains a glaring issue, as they have now failed to keep a clean sheet in 12 of their 15 home matches this season. Despite sitting comfortably in seventh, theyll need to find more defensive stability if they want to avoid falling further away from the top spots in their next outing at Leeds.
Wolverhampton might still be propping up the table, but their recent resurgence is nothing short of remarkable. They have now managed to score twice in three straight matches which included wins against Liverpool and Aston Villa, showing a grit that was missing for much of the campaign.
While they are still waiting for that elusive first away win after fifteen attempts, the character shown to fight back from the brink suggests they will want to keep the momentum in their upcoming trip to West Ham.
2nd consecutive draw for Brentford. 2nd consecutive game where Wolverhampton conceded. 2nd consecutive away game where Wolverhampton conceded. 3rd consecutive game where Wolverhampton scored. 4th consecutive home game where Brentford conceded.
To calculate the above duration values based on a total of 90 minutes, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are considered scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are considered scored on the 90th minute.

Domination Index calculation method
⌄
The Domination Index calculation is based on the average of the following percentages:
- Possession percentage - Percentage of match corners awarded to each team - Percentage of time each team has been in the lead
The calculation used is: AVERAGE OF (% Possession x 4, % Corners and % Lead duration x 2)
'Domination' in football can be perceived in different ways. The goal of the Domination Index, as calculated here, is not about trying to determine things like 'who should have won' or which team has been simply attacking the most.
Sometimes a team has easily scored once or twice in the beginning of the game and then opts for a more reactive stance, with a focus on hindering the opponent's game. At the end of the match, the opponent might have had more possession, and even more shots, but that does not necessarily mean they have dominated the other team.
Considering possession as only one of the factors, which also include corners (clearly indicating a form of pressure on the opponent's defence), and how much of the 90-minute match duration each team has been leading, allows to also account for when teams have simply been busy controling the game, without needing to attack a lot.

The 'League average' indicator refers to the average value for all teams in the league since the beginning of the season.
Note: in the table above, to allow for averaging duration values based on a total of 90 minutes per game, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are all considered to be scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are also considered scored on the 90th minute.
In this example, Brentford have been in the lead for an average duration of 25.4 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 22.9 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Non-crucial goals scored: goals scored that increased an existing lead, or decreased the opponent's existing lead.
Non-crucial goals conceded: goals conceded that decreased an existing lead, or increased the opponent's existing lead.
Note regarding the Goals giving the lead and the goals giving lead to opponent values: both the team and the opponent team might take the lead more than once during a single match,
so the total number of goals giving the lead to a team might be higher than the number of matches played by the team.
Lead-defending ability Brentford have taken the lead 25 times and have conceded an equalizer on 11 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 56% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 44%).
Equalizing ability Of the 20 times that Brentford's opponents have taken the lead, Brentford have managed to score an equalizer on 7 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 35%.
In this example, Brentford have been in the lead for an average duration of 32.3 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 17.5 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Brentford have taken the lead 14 times and have conceded an equalizer on 6 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 57% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 43%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 8 times that Brentford's opponents have taken the lead when Brentford were playing at home, Brentford have managed to score an equalizer on 5 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 62%.
In this example, Brentford have been in the lead for an average duration of 18.6 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 28.3 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Brentford have taken the lead 11 times and have conceded an equalizer on 5 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 55% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 45%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 12 times that Brentford's opponents have taken the lead when Brentford were playing away, Brentford have managed to score an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 17%.

In this example, Wolverhampton Wanderers have been in the lead for an average duration of 8.1 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 38.3 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability Wolverhampton Wanderers have taken the lead 9 times and have conceded an equalizer on 6 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 33% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 67%).
Equalizing ability Of the 33 times that Wolverhampton's opponents have taken the lead, Wolverhampton have managed to score an equalizer on 9 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 27%.
In this example, Wolverhampton have been in the lead for an average duration of 12.0 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 31.8 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Wolverhampton have taken the lead 7 times and have conceded an equalizer on 4 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 43% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 57%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 16 times that Wolverhampton's opponents have taken the lead when Wolverhampton were playing at home, Wolverhampton have managed to score an equalizer on 5 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 31%.
In this example, Wolverhampton have been in the lead for an average duration of 4.1 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 44.8 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Wolverhampton have taken the lead 2 times and have conceded an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 0% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 100%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 17 times that Wolverhampton's opponents have taken the lead when Wolverhampton were playing away, Wolverhampton have managed to score an equalizer on 4 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 24%.
