A total collapse at the Stadium of Light saw Sunderland humbled 5-0 by a rampant Nottingham Forest, a result that strengthen the recent surge to secure the visitors' top-flight status.
Heading into this one, Sunderland were banking on their usually resilient home setup to stop a Nottingham Forest side finding its rhythm.
The Black Cats were desperate to turn their recent away scoring form into points on home turf, while Forest arrived seeking to extend a five-match unbeaten streak and pull further away from the relegation dogfight.
The misery began in the 17th minute when a short corner routine caught the hosts cold; Igor Jesus headed the ball back across the six-yard box where it deflected off Trai Hume and into his own net (0-1).
Things went from bad to worse just past the half-hour mark when goalkeeper Robin Roefs saw his attempted clearance bounce off Chris Wood, allowing Morgan Gibbs-White to tee up the striker for a simple finish into an empty net (0-2).
Only three minutes later, the visitors were out of sight as Igor Jesus again turned provider with a far-post header, finding Morgan Gibbs-White in the center of the box, who expertly picked out the bottom left corner (0-3).
The first-half demolition was completed in the 37th minute after the home defence failed to clear their lines, leaving Igor Jesus to slot the ball into the far corner from the edge of the six-yard box despite the goalkeeper getting a slight touch (0-4).
A professional second half was capped off deep into stoppage time as a swift counter-attack saw Taiwo Awoniyi feed Elliot Anderson, who calmly slotted a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner (0-5).
For Sunderland, this was a defensive disaster that leaves them licking their wounds after conceding nine goals in just two outings.
This second consecutive defeat highlights a worrying trend at the Stadium of Light, where they have now failed to keep a clean sheet in 11 of their 17 home matches. They must now pick themselves up before a trip to Wolverhampton, with defensive organization surely being the primary focus on the training ground this week.
Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, are flying high after extending their run to six matches unbeaten and securing their second straight away win with a clean sheet to boot.
This clinical display reinforces their status as one of the league's most dangerous side of late, having now scored 16 goals in their last eight matches.
The victory propels them to 39 points, a significant eight points clear of the drop zone, and maintains their remarkable trend of winning big, with eight of their ten victories this season coming by a margin of two goals or more.
They head into a tough clash against Chelsea full of confidence, knowing their top-flight safety is almost within reach.
2nd consecutive defeat for Sunderland. 2nd consecutive win for Nottm Forest. 2nd consecutive away win for Nottm Forest. 2nd consecutive away game where Nottm Forest kept a clean sheet. 4th consecutive game where Nottm Forest scored. 8th consecutive away game where Nottm Forest scored. 2nd consecutive game where Sunderland conceded.
To calculate the above duration values based on a total of 90 minutes, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are considered scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are considered scored on the 90th minute.

Domination Index calculation method
⌄
The Domination Index calculation is based on the average of the following percentages:
- Possession percentage - Percentage of match corners awarded to each team - Percentage of time each team has been in the lead
The calculation used is: AVERAGE OF (% Possession x 4, % Corners and % Lead duration x 2)
'Domination' in football can be perceived in different ways. The goal of the Domination Index, as calculated here, is not about trying to determine things like 'who should have won' or which team has been simply attacking the most.
Sometimes a team has easily scored once or twice in the beginning of the game and then opts for a more reactive stance, with a focus on hindering the opponent's game. At the end of the match, the opponent might have had more possession, and even more shots, but that does not necessarily mean they have dominated the other team.
Considering possession as only one of the factors, which also include corners (clearly indicating a form of pressure on the opponent's defence), and how much of the 90-minute match duration each team has been leading, allows to also account for when teams have simply been busy controling the game, without needing to attack a lot.

Note: in the table above, to allow for averaging duration values based on a total of 90 minutes per game, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are all considered to be scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are also considered scored on the 90th minute.
In this example, Sunderland have been in the lead for an average duration of 15.2 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 22.0 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Non-crucial goals scored: goals scored that increased an existing lead, or decreased the opponent's existing lead.
Non-crucial goals conceded: goals conceded that decreased an existing lead, or increased the opponent's existing lead.
Note regarding the Goals giving the lead and the goals giving lead to opponent values: both the team and the opponent team might take the lead more than once during a single match,
so the total number of goals giving the lead to a team might be higher than the number of matches played by the team.
Lead-defending ability Sunderland have taken the lead 19 times and have conceded an equalizer on 5 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 74% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 26%).
Equalizing ability Of the 24 times that Sunderland's opponents have taken the lead, Sunderland have managed to score an equalizer on 12 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 50%.
In this example, Sunderland have been in the lead for an average duration of 21.0 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 14.3 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, Sunderland have taken the lead 11 times and have conceded an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 82% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 18%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 10 times that Sunderland's opponents have taken the lead when Sunderland were playing at home, Sunderland have managed to score an equalizer on 6 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 60%.
In this example, Sunderland have been in the lead for an average duration of 9.3 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 29.6 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, Sunderland have taken the lead 8 times and have conceded an equalizer on 3 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 62% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 38%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 14 times that Sunderland's opponents have taken the lead when Sunderland were playing away, Sunderland have managed to score an equalizer on 6 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 43%.
Sunderland stats rank the team in 7th position in the Premier League table with 54 points, 3 points behind Bournemouth.

The 'League average' indicator refers to the average value for all teams in the league since the beginning of the season.
In this example, Nottingham Forest have been in the lead for an average duration of 17.3 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 25.1 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability Nottingham Forest have taken the lead 15 times and have conceded an equalizer on 4 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 73% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 27%).
Equalizing ability Of the 28 times that Nottm Forest's opponents have taken the lead, Nottm Forest have managed to score an equalizer on 12 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 43%.
In this example, Nottm Forest have been in the lead for an average duration of 14.8 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 15.3 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.

In this example, Nottm Forest have been in the lead for an average duration of 19.9 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 34.9 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Non-crucial goals scored: goals scored that increased an existing lead, or decreased the opponent's existing lead.
Non-crucial goals conceded: goals conceded that decreased an existing lead, or increased the opponent's existing lead.
