West Ham United signed off their Premier League campaign with a comprehensive 3-0 home victory against an in-form Leeds United side, but the final whistle brought a bittersweet reality.
The Hammers knew that safety required maximum points paired with a Tottenham slip, and despite doing their part under intense pressure, Spurs' parallel victory left the table unchanged.
This home triumph snapped a three-match winless streak for West Ham, but it wasn't enough to drag them out of the bottom three, confirming their relegation to the Championship.
Leeds United arrived in the capital completely free of pressure, having already guaranteed their top-flight survival before the first whistle. Conversely, West Ham were fueled by sheer desperation, entering the matchday inside the relegation zone and trailing 17th-place Tottenham by two points.
The match represented a classic clash of conflicting motivations, with the hosts fighting for their lives against an away side eager to play the role of spoiler.
A tense affair finally cracked open in the 67th minute when a corner routine from the right found Valentin Castellanos at the far post, where his clinical header flew into the left corner to ignite the home support (1-0).
Desperation turned into relief in the 79th minute as Jarrod Bowen latched onto a sharp through ball, surged into the right side of the penalty area, and calmly slotted his finish past the goalkeeper into the opposite corner of the net (2-0).
The final flourish came deep into stoppage time when a short corner routine on the left side picked out Callum Wilson in the 94th minute; the forward cut inside from outside the box and unleashed a powerful strike that rocketed into the right corner to put the exclamation point on the afternoon (3-0).
This final-day triumph provided a much-needed victory for West Ham United after three league games without a win, but it ultimately served as a hollow consolidation as they finish 18th with 39 points.
Statistically, the clean sheet was a rare positive for the Hammers, who historically failed to keep a clean sheet in 16 of their 19 home matches this season. While they proved they could score late, their low ranking in the Second Half table remains a reflective metric of their campaign.
Leeds United saw their impressive eight-match unbeaten run in the league come to an abrupt end on the final day, finishing the campaign in 14th place with 47 points.
The result exposed their persistent travel vulnerabilities, marking the fourth consecutive away match where they failed to keep a clean sheet, an issue aligned with their season average of missing shutouts in 17 of their 19 away fixtures.
Furthermore, conceding all three goals after the interval reinforced a season-long trend, as 71% of Leeds' conceded goals this year occurred in the second half.
To calculate the above duration values based on a total of 90 minutes, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are considered scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are considered scored on the 90th minute.

Domination Index calculation method
⌄
The Domination Index calculation is based on the average of the following percentages:
- Possession percentage - Percentage of match corners awarded to each team - Percentage of time each team has been in the lead
The calculation used is: AVERAGE OF (% Possession x 4, % Corners and % Lead duration x 2)
'Domination' in football can be perceived in different ways. The goal of the Domination Index, as calculated here, is not about trying to determine things like 'who should have won' or which team has been simply attacking the most.
Sometimes a team has easily scored once or twice in the beginning of the game and then opts for a more reactive stance, with a focus on hindering the opponent's game. At the end of the match, the opponent might have had more possession, and even more shots, but that does not necessarily mean they have dominated the other team.
Considering possession as only one of the factors, which also include corners (clearly indicating a form of pressure on the opponent's defence), and how much of the 90-minute match duration each team has been leading, allows to also account for when teams have simply been busy controling the game, without needing to attack a lot.

The 'League average' indicator refers to the average value for all teams in the league since the beginning of the season.
Note: in the table above, to allow for averaging duration values based on a total of 90 minutes per game, goals scored on the 45th minute and during added time of the first half are all considered to be scored on the 45th minute, and goals scored on the 90th minute and during added time of the second half are also considered scored on the 90th minute.
In this example, West Ham United have been in the lead for an average duration of 18.7 minutes per match (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 26.6 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Non-crucial goals scored: goals scored that increased an existing lead, or decreased the opponent's existing lead.
Non-crucial goals conceded: goals conceded that decreased an existing lead, or increased the opponent's existing lead.
Note regarding the Goals giving the lead and the goals giving lead to opponent values: both the team and the opponent team might take the lead more than once during a single match,
so the total number of goals giving the lead to a team might be higher than the number of matches played by the team.
Lead-defending ability West Ham United have taken the lead 22 times and have conceded an equalizer on 12 instances, translating into a lead-defending rate of 45% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 55%).
Equalizing ability Of the 25 times that West Ham Utd's opponents have taken the lead, West Ham Utd have managed to score an equalizer on 6 instances, translating into an equalizing rate of 24%.
In this example, West Ham Utd have been in the lead for an average duration of 21.3 minutes per match played at home (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is longer than the average duration of 15.2 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (at home) In home matches, West Ham Utd have taken the lead 14 times and have conceded an equalizer on 8 occasions, translating into a home lead-defending rate of 43% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 57%).
Equalizing ability (at home) Of the 13 times that West Ham Utd's opponents have taken the lead when West Ham Utd were playing at home, West Ham Utd have managed to score an equalizer on 4 occasions, translating into a home equalizing rate of 31%.
In this example, West Ham Utd have been in the lead for an average duration of 16.2 minutes per match played away (based on a 90-minute match duration), which is lower than the average duration of 37.9 minutes per match during which their opponents were in the lead in those matches.
Lead-defending ability (away) In away matches, West Ham Utd have taken the lead 8 times and have conceded an equalizer on 4 occasions, translating into an away lead-defending rate of 50% (for an opponents' equalizing rate of 50%).
Equalizing ability (away) Of the 12 times that West Ham Utd's opponents have taken the lead when West Ham Utd were playing away, West Ham Utd have managed to score an equalizer on 2 occasions, translating into an away equalizing rate of 17%.
West Ham Utd stats rank the team in 18th position in the Premier League table with 39 points, 2 points behind Tottenham and 17 points above Burnley.
